DESCRIPTION:
This is the beautiful 2 handled fan shaped vase in the Yellow Flambe glaze.  The colors of black/brown over caramel are so well blended and streak from the top to the bottom of the vase.  This is not the typical fan shaped vase as the two handles are added at the bottom and the vase has a narrow silhouette.
CONDITION:
The condition of this Fulper vase appears superb, however there is one issue.  There are two very tight hairlines that you can see in photo #6.  These are really difficult to find, but they do exist.  This would make a great display piece.  We can find no manufacturing defects.  There are no chips, nicks, cracks, scratches, rubbings or other hairlines.  Please refer to the photos to see how classically beautiful this is.
DIMENSIONS:
The vase has a height of 6" and the fan spreads to 5 3/4".  The width of the fan is 1 3/8".  The oval base is 1 7/16" by 3 7/8".
HISTORY/MARKS:
The Hill Pottery Company was founded by Samuel Hill in 1814, in Flemington, New Jersey. Hill Pottery produced utilitarian items.  When Samuel Hill, died the company was purchased in 1858 by Abram Fulper, a former employee.  He renamed the company The Fulper Pottery Company. Under Fulper's guidance, the company extended their line to include stoneware articles and tile.  By the early 1900’s Fulper Pottery, run by William Hill Fulper II, began experimentation with art pottery.  In 1910 Fulper Pottery hired Johan Martin Stangl as a ceramic chemist and technical assistant even though he was only 22 at the time.  Martin Stangl was soon promoted to superintendent with total control of the plant employees including the foremen.  Stangl left Fulper in 1914 and began working for Haeger Brick and Tile Company, but in 1918 he returned to Fulper and became Vice President.  In 1926 Stangl was promoted to President.  As president Stangl created the Fulper/Stangl logo.  Upon William Fulper's death in 1928, Martin Stangl bought William Fulper's share of the Fulper Pottery Company and changed the Fulper/Stangl brand names and logos to the Stangl trademark.  The inkstamp on the bottom of this vase is referred to as the oval racetrack mark that was used in the 1922-1928 time period as cited from www.marks4antiques.com as mark #2.
