    Description

    Antique Russian Orthodox Chalice Silver Cup Hand Engraved Cross Large. This early 20th Century piece stands at 10 7/8" with diameter base at 5" and cup at 3.75".  The cup is gold plated silver. The form of the chalice is in a lovely, traditional Slavonic style. The heart felt hand engraved cross on the cup, accompanied by the sponge and spear, are framed in an oval producing a nostalgic touch.There are no hallmarks. The stem, knops and base are brass and were also gold plated, though years of polishing have worn away the gilding as you can see from the photos. There is normal wear and tear from many years of use with minor scratches, and a smaller score about 1 cm which you can see on the back of the cup in pic #4. There is no pitting. It weighs 1lb 2 oz.  I strongly suggest replating with silver or a gold wash before restoring to liturgical use. Please look carefully at pictures as they are part of the description.
